As my weekly routine, I went for my grocery shopping to a Mandi nearby my clinic on the way back home. As the winters have arrived, the market is full with lush green vegetables. I went through the market and checked out various vegetables n fruits and noted their prices as well. Bunch of spinach, the rich source of iron is available for Rs. 10. While 250 grams broccoli is worth Rs. 40. The effect of demonetization could be easily seen people were seen bargaining over prices as they all are short of 100 rupee notes. The cheapest and most beneficial thing I found in the market was AMLA which costs me only Rs. 20 for 250 grams.
It is one of my favourite fruit also known as Indian Gooseberry. This wonderful fruit has abundant of benefits. It is the biggest source of vitamin C and contains iron and calcium as well. It was very commonly used as an ingredient of Ayurvedic medicines. Some of the benefits of this wonder fruit are as:
• Medicine for sore throat- If we mix amla juice with pieces of chopped ginger and tablespoon of honey, this will prove to be an effective medicine and you can recover overnight.
• Improves eyesight- Carotene in amla helps in the improvement of eyesight. If we consume amla daily, eye health will improve and you can get rid of cataract issue as well as watering and itching of eyes.
• Amla has lot of antioxidant properties. It contains phenols, flavonoids as well as vitamin C which can neutralize cell damaging free radicals. The free radicals are the reason of many health issues such as heart diseases, cancer and contribute to ageing process.
• Amla acts as a fat burner. A protein present in amla prevents craving and boosts metabolism helping to shed weight faster. Amla is rich in fibre and the presence of tannic acid in it helps relieve constipation and make you look less bloated.
• Amla is a proven tonic for hairs. It slows down greying, prevents dandruff, strengthens hair follicles and increases blood circulation to the scalp which improves hair growth. Amla is regarded as a natural conditioner.
• Amla is the best anti-ageing fruit. Drinking amla juice with honey every morning can give you blemish free, glowing and beautiful skin.
• Be it joint pains, arthritis or ulcer pain, amla provided relief because of its anti-inflammatory properties.
• Have amla juice with turmeric powder and honey twice a day to control diabetes. The chromium present in amla helps control the blood sugar levels. It also stimulates the secretion of insulin.

Next time you plan your mandi visit, please include Amla in the priority list.
