Indian parents especially mothers are delusional and keep calling their child healthy and give a totally different meaning to the word. They are really confused in the word obese and healthy. Being healthy means being free from all ailments. But Indians call their kid with excess weight, healthy. This is a really dangerous practice as child believes that his current way of over consumption and unhealthy eating is normal. When a child has 20 percent excess weight in the calculated ideal weight for age, sex and height, it is considered “obesity”. A research says that 16 % of children in our Country are obese and 31% are under risk of falling under this category. Children who are obese are prone to diseases like cardio vascular diseases and diabetes and many other problems. Children fed up with junk food are having lower IQ than their healthy counterparts.

The main reasons for child obesity these days are lack of physical activity and movement. Fussy eating habits of children force their parents to buy them junk and these lead to adding up more kilos to their body. Improper diet plans lacking nutrients and gap between meals may be another reason for child obesity. A healthy diet plan with reference to a medical nutritionist may help you to control obesity in your child and making him/her healthy. The snack options should be healthy and fruits and green veggies must be planned in the weekly scheduled diet plans for the child. Try to make the meals attractive and serve them with love so that they enjoy eating the food and do not run away. Make meal time s a family affair and fun so that the child do not skip the meal. Encourage exercises and outdoor activities. Choose healthy options like poha,

quinoa and oats in the meals so that nutrition and taste should go hand in hand.
