One wrong advice from a renowned dietitian could have brought numerous diabetic followers and listeners of hers into the risk of worsening their health condition. The reason why mangoes are ‘never-ever’ recommended, by any doctor or qualified dietician is that the total amount of carbohydrates in a food adversely affect blood sugar level and hence the later shoots up. For diabetic patients, when we provide diets it is made sure that the blood glucose level is brought under control. Hence, her claim over making mangoes suitable for diabetic patients, a fruit that is very rich in carbohydrates, got her into facing a legal notice.
Dr. Pradeep Gadge, who filed the petition said that many of his patients inquired about a video that shows it is safe for diabetic patients to consume mangoes. They also said that the video feature a renowned dietitian and it has been going viral on WhatsApp and Facebook. Dr. Gadge is a diabetologist and the owner of DR. Gadge’s Diabetes care centre.
In this, Dr. Shashank Joshi, the president of Indian Academy of Diabetes, agreed to the claim of DR. Gadge and said Mangoes can never be recommended to Diabetic patients as the fruit contains high glycaemic load that can spike a person’s blood sugar level. This can lead to both immediate and long-term complications and can also be life-threatening. With this statement, he called the statement by the dietitian fraudulent, and unscientific. However, we do ask our patients to take ‘mango smoothie’ to reduce fat, depending on their medical history and metabolism. Speaking of the diabetic patients, our success stories have been incredible making right-diet a perfect cure for diabetes. Well, to be precise Dt. Without saying much, I would like to conclude myself with a few lines for my readers; Diets are a cardinal aspect of life. When you choose to follow someone, please make sure the qualification and experience are proper. Diabetes can be healed with natural diets, without deprivation or starvation, however, there are certain foods that need to be avoided.

We are clinical nutritionists and our prime focus is to cure the problem, whilst making sure that there is no starvation for any essential nutrient in the client’s body. Therefore, once a client is diagnosed with diabetes, the diet wholly-solely depends on the HbA1C levels for the purpose of healing and efficiency of food combinations. It is not only about mangoes, for diabetic patients we need to make sure of the portion control. Carbohydrates are like fuel to the bodies, cannot be totally eradicated of the diet, however, the quantity depends on the medical condition. It is better to focus on how to be diabetic free and how simpler carbohydrates, the ones present in fruits such as fructose, does to diabetic patients.
